I needed to replace my rear tires. I took intoday, and they couldn't do an alignment because my ball bearings were bad. They want $500 to fix them. Is it hard to do? Could I change them myself? Thanks.

You don't have ball bearings in the rear. What the hell happened?
Take it somewhere else. You only do an alignment in the front. If something is broken or heavily worn replace it.
