  • Stripped Lugnut

I somehow striped a lug nut and I need to get it off. The thread is stripped and not matter how many times I turn it, it just keeps spinning. Whats a good way to get this off??

      Front or back?

If the lug doesn't unscrew off, try putting a screwdriver on the base of the lug as you're turning it counterclockwise to try and force it to the unstripped threads. If that fails, you may have to break the stud with the lug attached. Try a pair of vice grips or large pliers and move the lug up and down until it breaks off, but you'll have to be careful if you have nice rims. Once it's broken or the lug is removed, hammer it out and go to autozone, pepboys, etc and get a new stud.

Regardless of how you get it off (try a torch if needed and cut it off or heat it that way) you're gonna need a new stud when you're done.

It's too bad you did it, but that does tend to happen every once in a while.

Weird, normally either you twist off the stud by putting the lugs on too tight, or you cross-thread a lug and it's hung tight.

You're not trying to remove one of the lock nuts with a standard hex socket are you?
