Hey I'm new to this forum and I was wondering if putting 18" wheels in the back and 17" wheels in the front had any purpose? Also is it safe to do it to our f-bodies and is it legal? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

That would be bigger wheels in the back...not tires like the topic says. I don't think there is much purpose but on some cars it does look good. Its perfectly safe and legal.98 Bright Red Camaro
Too many mods to list....check my website

legal or safe?
first off, the vette has 17's in the front and 18's in the back
second, why would it be illegal????
the only downside to bigger wheels is the weight, which if ur in it for the ¼ mile, then chose some nice 16's
bigger wheels will just give u better handling and better looks....

Thanks for the replies. I just thought there could be some problems because if I'm not mistaken the front 17" wheels would be spinning at a faster rpm than the back 18" wheels because they are smaller. I was wondering if anything weird would happen because of this and that is what I meant by asking if it was safe.Garrett

2001 WS9 W68 Blackbird A4
Custom Turbo...Chrome ZO6...WS9 Hood...
Custom Leather Interior...
much much more...see website

http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/637795/

why would you put big tires in the front, and small tires in the rear, ON A REAR WHEEL DRIVE car?
i have 245's in the front, and 275's in the back.I guess I\'d have answer your question with another question.

How many Abidiginals do you see in modeling??????

headers, 3inch magnaflow cat, Loudmouth
99 Midnight Blue Firebird
3.8L A4

he meant sidewall length.. like the 40 or 35 part if the tire dimensions, not the width of the tire. just to point out.1995 3.4 Liter M5 Camaro
A few mods...
still slow.

Minnesota F-body

The main thing about staggered rim sizes is looks and tire options. for example, the look for 17" front/18" rear gives cars a raked look. also, when wanting a larger contact patch, it's easier to find wider and taller tires for 18's than it is for 17's. Also, depending on how ur suspension is set up, ur car might like having wider rear tires. a really big rear swaybar compared to the front would grip a lot better w/ wider rear tires and mroe of a contact patch.
BTW, it is perfectly safe and legal to stagger rim sizes.2001 Arctic White Firebird
More mods than I\'m allowed to list!

The rear (or even the front) tires cannot stick out more than 1" from the body of the front or rear fender(s) here in PA.
Also, they must not be too wide to rub inside of the wheelwell when going over bumps. That is HIGHLY un-safe, and will not pass inspection.sigpic
