  • Parts Needed For Disc Brake Conversion??

Hey guys, i have a '97 bird with rear drums, i desperately want to turn this into rear discs. I was wondering if it is possible to get all the parts listed that i will need, and also what year f-body's i can snag them off. There are some parting out '94 t/a's and z28's (Will these work with a '97) that i've seen and i might inquire them about their rear discs.

I know some custom work might be needed to ensure they fit properly, but i don't think too much is required.

thanks, i aprpeciate any help i can get.

You can either swap the entire rear axle out of a 93-97 V8 (which is what most people do), or get the brakes off of the same years. Several F-body salvage sites can put together a "kit". I bought a "kit". It is a bolt-on, except for the soft line attachment. You either have to cut and attach a fitting on the existing hard line, or install the entire hard line from the salvaged brakes.

BTW the use of 98+ rear brakes (which are different) would require modifications.

thanks buddy, i've looked into installing an enitre rear end, but a) it is too expensive to ship, and b)i put posi and gears in last year. I think i'm going to contact the guy parting out his '94 maro. Do you know exactly what parts i need from him?

thanks for the help, i appreciate it.

GT-Do you know what kind of modifications are necessary to use the 98+ on a 94? I have been looking into the same conversion and have the opportunity to purchase all the parts, from e-brake cables down to the pads. From the pictures I have they look similar. The hard lines look like they would connect directly to the T-fitting currently on my car. I am missing the small bracket where the hard line mates to the soft line. But other than that, I haven't been able to eyeball anything else. Thanks for the help.

If you can get 98+ rear brakes on a 3rd gen, you should be able to get them on a 93-97.
