  • Having huge problems guys

    Okay here is the layout:

    I have 235/45 17's all the way around and I can't keep tires for shizzle. I try and make sure that I keep an alignment and I rotate them every 5 grand or so. My ride has to be the roughest ride of any maro on the planet.
    I hate to say it but everything might need to be re-done. If I don't have the liberty to replace everything (and I don't), what are the best initial steps to take to try and make things a little more "safe" and cost effective. Thanks guys.

    Proper wheel balancing and tire pressure... check your critical suspension components (U-joints, balljoints, LCAs, tie-rods and ends, etc) (weak components can't hold alignments worth crap).

      How many miles do you have on it? Are you the first owner of the car? Has it been wrecked? Theres alot of factors that can cause a rough ride, ie blown shocks maybe?

        Sorry for the delay, I was off yesterday. I have 112k on the car and it was hit before. The only accidents it's ever had have been with me. I'm the second owner, a friend of mine bought it brand new in 97 and I took it off his hands in 00'. It was damn near totaled before when a genius hit it up against a curb while it was parked a couple years ago. It went to a "dealership" which gave me hell and a half on getting it back. It went in the shop on Dec, 16 and I didn't get her back until March 25 ( I know right). So yes it has been wrecked and everything witht the "dealership" was so shi(y that I doubt if they actually "re-did" the entire suspension like the 4800 bucks that were paid to them was intended. I think my shocks are blown and thanks Dan, I'll check the critical components you listed here. Oh yea...LCS's???

              Are they ****ty cheap tires or some good expensive tires? I have had problems with cheap tires going real fast. Tires have a huge effect on your ride too. How long exactly do your tires last?

                I've seen quite a few accidents in my line of duty, and MOST of the ones that got totalled were never properly fixed and gave the owner(s) tons of problems down the road. There are some places that can do a great job on fixing totalled cars, but most of them want to get that car out of their shop and just get paid.
                If another owner rubbed the curb really hard (enough to total it), chances are the bodyshop could not properly re-align the suspension, or they did a shotty job.

                Not like it matters, but;
                I know a guy that owns a reputible bodyshop here in philly, we were on the subject of fixing the frame of cars, and he told me to bend a paperclip totally out of place, then try to re-bend it to it's original shape again. Isn't that easy once you try it.

                  The tires are Khumo, I forgot the series on them, but I wish they were shotty because I would at least be saving money. They run about 125 a peice, and I used to have Yokahoma's on there before I saw the same decrease in life of the tire. No sense in spending 175 a pop and still having to replace them quarter-annually (feel me?)

                  So, I think that pretty much rules out the notion of the tires being bad, plus it's NEVER the entire tread. When I replace the tires its like an old guy's head.....bald in one area and thick and full in another, which is why I rotate them so much (helps a little).

                  And yea Marc, I know this place sucks monkey crotch, everything about them was sorry from service to repair. There was NOT one single thing that I was pleased with, not a single thing! But here I go venting about them again....Hey Marc can u check and see if any place does estimates on frame and suspension work w/o charging an arm and a leg?

                  Thanks

                    If you were near philly, I'd give you a suggestion. But in AL, I have no idea...sorry. Just remember, (in most cases) you'll get what you pay for.
                    There are way too many shiesters here in the southeast part of PA! I know exactly what you are going through. I just hope your problem is a cheap fix and not a total rebuild of the frame.

                      </font>[/QUOTE]Let me re-phrase that, does anyone know if such an estimate exist? As far as I know places charge if your car has to go on a lift.
