uh oh. i think my power steering broke or something. It was raining and all of a sudden the power steering went out. I checked the fluid, and its on the very bottom of that little dipstick thing.
do i need to fill it up? fill it up with what?
is the power steering pump shot?
ok, put some fluid in it and it seems that the steering is getting better slowly. It groans now when I turn the wheel and is still very tough to turn sometimes. Anyone have any idea on whats going on?
Our power steering pumps are notorious for going out (that's why I've been saying for several months that I'm gonna install the PSCooler that sits on my floor). You may have a leak or something ... top off the fluid to the appropriate (do it while cold) cold level, and turn the wheel a couple times (maybe with wheels in air if you can manage it). Check level again, and refill until it stops gulping fluid. But, if you ran the rack dry somehow, it could be damaged. Good luck! Rain does funny things to our cars, like making them slide and wreck.
you can try some lucas powersteering oil fluid.. (I forget the right name for it) they sell it at napa.. not cheap but worth a try..
mine leaks too.. sounds like you let it get too low and possibly burned up the pump.. I just try to keep an eye on the level every month or so because I have no idea where it is leaking..
anyway try that stuff made by lucas and see if it helps..
