  • ABS INOP + BRAKE

Hi guys, I'm having a problem with my 98 camaro. The ABS INOP and BRAKE lights lit up in the dashboard. The brakes are working OK but I don't know about the ABS (I didn't test it with hard braking). One more thing, the light aren't always lit... They might be lit at first then they close after a while, or they aren't lit when I first start the car but then lit up...
    Anybody knows what this is?

    thanks for your help.

Could be a number of things. First, check to see if your thrid brake light is out. This can cause the ABS INOP light to come on and is also the cheapest to fix. So cross your fingers thats it. Other possible problems could be the ABS Module or a sensor going bad on you.

When the light is on abs is off until the problem is fixed.

Deffentially check your third brake light, also check the plugin in your rear axle and speed sensors and such. Make sure none of the grounds got knocked out in places ect.

ABS without the proper scan tools, are really are just a hunt/trial and error game.

Check the battery terminals, clean them and reattach, happens to me every couple months so its worth a shot.

I checked the third brake light and it is working. I also checked fuses and they were all fine. Now I'll have a look at the plugin in my rear axle, speed sensors, battery terminals and brake fluid.

            I'll keep you guys posted.

            Thanks for your help!

On the passenger side wheel well in the engine compartment, there is a ground source, with several grounds leading into it.. check that to make sure it's good and tight, and not dirty or corroded... i had the same problem and that fixed it
              Good luck

The most common reason I see ABS lights on is a malfuntioning speed sensor.
