  • Put on a 1LE swaybar with poly links, now it squeeks.

I got the bar for free helping a friend move, so I decided to put it on.
Holy crap what a difference! I love it.

My only concern is that since the bushings that hold the bar to the chasis were in good shape, and since they are 1le, they are very hard rubber, so I used them instead of poly bushings.
Handles great, but for some reason it squeeks alot. Anyone else have this problem? I didn't remember seeing a grease fitting on the bushings either... Hmmmmm. Maybe I need to take the bushing back off and wipe some grease inside them. I dunno.

You're going to have to remove the swaybar again and grease inside of the bushings. It shouldn't make any noises after that.

Some greases can soften or swell the rubber bushing, so be careful on what you use.

I've got some teflon tape that we can wrap the bar with that will help too. It's not the thin white plumbers stuff, but a thicker tape with a good adhesive on one side. I'll have to get it to you this weekend somehow.

Hmmm.... that sounds kinda cool Jeff. I will email you about it.

Would it just be easier to put on greasable poly bushings?

              Stock was 30mm.
              1LE is 32mm.
Doesn't seem like that big of a jump, but the car is WAY flatter in the turns now.

Did you notice how the stock rubber bushings felt about as stiff as packing foam?

Sway bar stiffness is (diamter)^4 - small changes have big effects.

Alright sounds good. I definately plan on buying the strano bars now, because if going from 30 to 32mm made a such a good difference, I really want to try the 35mm.

The stock rubber bushings did feel like packing foam. The stock 1le bushings, however were very hard.
