  • lowering car mess up warranty????

anybody know if lowering your car will mess up the warranty. I got extended warranty that covers almost everything. I lowered my car last year and just got an alignment done. The dude that did it said theres someone that moved in like 1/4 inche on rear right wheel, which is makin my steerin move left. Will the warranty people be *****es about it (the warranty is from a private company)? i cant remember what moved in, he siad that it needs to be stretch out 1/4 inch, any ideas? what the fags at my dealership do is that they run a "diagnotics" to see what teh problem is. then if the warranty covers it they repair it, but if it dont the slam u with $80 fee for tellin me somethin that i know is wrong with it.

    thanks in advance

you need an adjustable panhard rod to re-center ur rear end. they're about 100-175 bucks for a good one. the suspension shop u got ur car lowered at will be able to put it on and adjust it to re-center ur rear end. no messing w/ warranty or nething.

BUT if you do have suspension problems and try and get the dealer to fix em under warranty it wont work. They'll say you ****ed with it and its your problem.

are the panhard rods easily to put in, they dont look to difficult. What is a good brand and where is the cheapest place to buy them? any help is apprehended. But the way it was only the rear right tire that moved in not the left, he said the left said was ok. I think i will just have to go ask him again.

the phr is easy to put in. for a quick fix, a BMR adj. phr would be good. lot's of places have them, i dunno which is the cheapest tho.

Your right and left wheels are connected...one can't move out...its the whole rear end that shifted.

Modifying your car does not void the warranty. If you have a warranty related failure and it involves a portion of the car that is modified, they have to prove that the modification caused the problem. And they have to document the proof. If they are telling you one wheel moved and the other didn't, they are trying to feed you a line.

well thats interestin known. well i didnt get it aligned at the dealer, it was some other place. I think i just misunderstood what he was sayin, he said he didnt repair that kinda stuff, so i guess he cant be lyin.

the dealership is so unpredictable, like i told them that my alarm sensor seems messed up, but they refuse to change in. Even though the alarm system is covered under my extended warranty. But when my alternator went out that was covered under the warranty, and i have so much hooked on my battery, they didnt say anythin.

Federal law prohibits a dealer from voiding your warranty just because you are using aftermarket speed equipment, with only two exceptions: the warranty can be voided if the aftermarket part causes damage, or adversely affects the emissions or the emissions system. In recent documents produced by the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association ), a trade association representing specialty automotive parts manufacturers, the following quotes have been extracted:

"The vehicle manufacturer is not allowed to void the vehicle warranty just because aftermarket equipment is installed on the vehicle. This protection for consumers is the result of a parts self certification program developed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA).

"Under the program, if a parts maker completes the EPA process of self-certifying its parts, the vehicle manufacturer cannot void the warranty even if the certified part has failed and is directly responsible for the warranty claim. In cases where such a failed aftermarket part is responsible for a warranty claim, the manufacturer must arrange a settlement with the part manufacturer, but the new vehicle warrant is not void under the law.

"If the failure to honor a claim involves the new-vehicle warranty, and it appears that the manufacturer is improperly denying a claim, the incident should be reported to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The FTC is responsible for monitoring compliance with the warranty law; the agency's telephone number is 202/326-3128."
