• Whatchu think about this Brake setup...

    Ok, so here's the deal. My car shakes violently when I'm slowing down from high speed and when i apply the brake semi-heavily. So I check out the brakes and it seems I need some new brake pads. Well, as Tim Allen would say...it probably needs MORE POWER! AARRHHH ARRRHH ARRRHHHH! lol so I'm lookin to get me 4 new Baer Eradispeed rotors that are cross-drilled, slotted, and zinc-washed and also weigh about 5lbs less per rotor than our stock ones. Also gonna get me some Hawk performance brake pads with some Earls performance plumbing stainless steel brake lines with solo bleeders and gonna get the Line Lock solenoid from SLP so I can lock the front brakes on launches. Is that beast or what??? AARRHH ARRRHH ARRRHHHH!

    There are quite a few posts in the forum below concerning braking upgrades. Alot of people are leaning towards changing rotors and leaving the calipers stock. Much cheaper and good results, especially if you are only doing this for street use.

    There are also a number of posts concerning the value of the Eradispeed rotors, even by Bear themselves? Cross drilling seems to be more for show than performance. Just another info source to consider.

      Unless you prefer to throw away a lot of cash i would not got the eradispeed rotors. Sure they look cool but the difference in stopping power will not be worth the 7 or 800 bucks the setup costs. For starters you already have a leg up with the "ls1" brakes that your car came standard with. I would get a set of KVR rotors from www.fasttoys.net I have heard only good about the KVR rotors and plan on getting some now that i have warped my stock ls1 rotors. Also, crossdrilling only reduces contat area between the pad and rotor, slots only chew up pads, so basicly these are for looks. Get a good KVR rotor blank. Hawk pads will also be a good uprgade but be prepared to battle brake dust, lots of it. The Earl's lines are a good upgrade too and there aren't any bad things about those Good luck to ya!

        One question I have is if its true that the Baer rotors are gauranteed not to warp or crack. If this is true then I think its worth it in the long run. Rotors are easy to warp, especially if you drive a lot in heavy, stop and go traffic. I think over all if the rotors are gauranteed then it would be worth the 700 dollars for the setup. Plus this isn't the only company that offers this type of setup. Wilwood brakes offer something similar. I would check out all my options before jumping into it. But I do think it would be worth it in the long run, especially on your wallet. How much does it cost you to replace your rotors and how much to replace the pads every so often due to over wear. The Baer and Wilwood brake setup dissipate heat a lot better then other setups and don't require any increase in brake fluids.

          if they are guaranteed to not warp, ie they replace them if they do, then i say go for it for the fact that if u warp your disks again then you get new ones, which will pay for themselves quickly...

            I would research a little more and find out for sure if they are gauranteed not to warp. I have never heard of this.

                  I suggest getting EBC "yellow stuff" kevlar brake pads w/ the baer rotors. less dust, look better, stop faster, less weight, great warranty's for both, and no more problems w/ brakes, untill you want 6-piston calipers, then get the wilwood brake kit.

                      yeah, I was just going to ask where you can get the yellow ones. I've seen the red and green ones but not the yellow. I think that the brake setup that you posted will save you a lot of money in the long run. Its just putting out the initial cost. Oh well sometimes you've got to give in order to get.

                        Camarokidd10, did you read the whole warranty page? The warping stuff is certainly good, but read it all.

quote:
Baer warrants the rotors sold as part of any EradiSpeedTM product not to warp for the life of the product. Any rotor that we confirm is warped will be replaced by us at no charge to you. This warranty is limited to providing a replacement rotor and does not include labor to remove or replace the product. Normal as well as other forms of wear is not covered by this warranty.

quote:
There is no warranty for normal wear, run out, cracks, or for plated surfaces.

                        The problems have been with cracking, not warping! Drilled rotors are more prone to cracking. You will be covering the cost to replace these rotors for that type of failure, not Baer :(

                        Here is a qoute I copied from this post on LS1.com
                        Rotors

quote:
If you are interested, you might call Hal Baer. He is very friendly, and has been totally candid when I have spoken with him. We discussed cross drilling and slotting rotors, among other brake issues. I won’t quote private conversations, but I’ll quote him from an interview he did for Super Chevy magazine. It was published in the 3/96 issue on page 94.

                        “…There are two reasons that rotors are cross drilled;
                        1. To relieve the gasses emitted from the breakdown of the bonding agents used in the manufacture of some brake pads… Ironically, current race pads are pre-burnished and do not have an outgassing problem;
                        2. For cosmetic reasons. The truth is that with today’s ever larger and increasingly open wheel styles, the brake system has become instrumental in creating a “look”. Crossdrilled rotors do deliver about 15% less service in most serious to extreme street use. In actual track use, this reduction can be upwards of 50%…”

                          blahhhh, oh well, fack it!! Baer is a pretty respectable company. I dont think they would make a product that's gonna break and then go out and sell it to consumers. Besides, look at all the other cross-drilled and/or slotted rotors out there that dont have any warranty, ya know? ;) I have the eradispeeds on order, pics and reviews still to come... I wasn't trying to steer you towards something else in particular. I just wanted to make sure you had a lot of info to base your decisions on. :D They are supposed to be great rotors, they just are not an end-all solution to rotor problems. And its alot of money too. I hope they work out well for you

                              Its all good man :D I cant wait to put those puppies on there. I just need to find out what kinda brake pads to suit em with. Patrick suggested getting EBC's which I looked into and they seem to be pretty sweety, especially because they have 4 types of performance brakes pads to choose from. There's also Hawk, KVR, Carbotech, and a few others, any suggestions???
