  • I am a little confused, need advice

I got a set of 98+ rear springs and a full set of v8 sway bars for my 1994 convertible. First of all, I paid for shipping only, so I'm not out a lot of $$.

I was reading some old posts, some advise against putting on those rear springs and stiffer sway bars. First of all, since I have an extra 200 lbs in the rear for the roof, will it really be that detrimental to put the springs in the rear? Also, what exactly are the diameters of the swaybars?

    Any advice?

"since I have an extra 200 lbs in the rear for the roof, will it really be that detrimental to put the springs in the rear"?

I think it would help if you knew why people think this is a bad idea. I don't think the extra weight of the convertible is all on the rear, but let's say it is.

The following things will all move the car toward oversteer:

    stiffer rear springs

bigger rear sway (the V8 front is what you have now)

    more rear weight bias

So the reason I think this is a bad idea is that you will seriously unbalance the handling.

Sway bars and springs are tricky. Stiffer ones at the rear of the car make that end of the car _more_ likely to lose traction. Rear weight bias makes that problem _worse_, not better.
