  • Strut Tower brace

    Any of you guys think its worth the 90$ for one? Would it improve my handleing a little bit? Thanks :D

    i got one a couple summers back and i think it sux. i dont think it will do you an ounce of good unless you have a string autox application. it wont help you in daily driving or drag. spend the money on LCAs if you want a decent suspension upgrade
    SLP CAI, RK Sport headers, P&Ped heads and intake, GT2 cam, Upgraded valvetrain, Z28 rear axle with 4.10s Tx Spd tune, Z06 rims, 2.5\" exhaust to flowmaster, 160* thermo, B&M ripper, upgraded ignition, rockford fosgate 12\" with sony xplode amp and HU.

        for $90 yes I do think its worth it. Its a beginner chassis mod but its a needed one. I think that and subframe connectors should of been stock on fbodys with t-tops and converts.

        I installed my stb and subframes several months apart and I noticed a difference in each one.

          If I could do it all over again, I'd go with the SFC's first, then the STB second. The STB is ALOT easier to install, but the (Weld In) SFC's will give much better improvement all around! Together though, they give the car an awesome stability. :D

          Bolt-in SFC's are good, but nothing like weld-in's to stiffen up your ride.

          I had SFC's once, but cut them off due to wear-n-tear from an old driveway that tore them to shreds. New ones will be welded in this spring!!

            I'm not talking from personal experience because I dont have one, but I was told that strut tower braces are completely worthless. Apparently they were designed to keep the stuts from colapsing in during a collision. Sub frame connectors are hands down the way to go though, you definitely notice a difference from those.

              I have one and would so it really isn't worth it except for the appearance factor under the hood. Money can be spent elsewhere first

                Don't knw because I haven't been in a collision yet to voice my opinion. With that said, save a few extra bucks and get the SFC's welded in ~from someone who knows how to do it right. You'll notice an improvement immediately!!

                  You don't really need strut tower bars in a camaro, performance improvement will be very marginal for the money spent... much better to spend money on 1) better tires, 2) better dampers, 3) larger swaybar set, and 4) bushings (if worn).

                    Sorry if I worded that badly. I was saying they are worthless as far as adding rigidity to the car. Not that they are worthless for supporting your struts in a collision.
                    Anyway, hey hockeyman, do you think the weld on SFC's are better than bolt on ones? I know they're cheaper at least.

                      Yes, the weld in's are MUCH better! You just have to find someone who knows how to weld them in the right way. They are cheaper when you buy them, but you'll spend about $80-$175 to get them installed.

                      When I welded mine in before, this is how I did it:
                      I got the car up on 4 ramps, made sure it was completely level & air the pressure in all 4 tires were equal. This way, the subframe on the car is as straight as can be when I'm zapping the SFC's on.

                        I put the STB in after I did tires, springs, shocks, LCA's and relocation brackets, and sway bars. I could tell a diffrence, but it was the car feeling more stable around sharp corners, not being able to take corners faster like the other mods did for me.

                          It's not a great "seat of the pants" mod, but I think it's worthwhile. The car flexes a little less, it handles a touch more precisely, and it's a little less likely to develop squeeks.

                          It might provide a little more protection in some collisions, but that's not why I have one. The tops of the strut towers see more sideways load (which is where the brace is most effective) in corners than they do in most collisions.

                          I would do tires, shocks, and subframe connectors first.

                            If you change to Bilstein shocks on all 4 corners & add the STB, you will be astounded at the difference. You will think you're on rails when driving the twisties. Unless you're an all out road racer motor sport addict, it's really all you need to create a super touring ride.

                              I don't think it helped handling at all, but did seem to keep the bodywork on the front end a little stiffer which made the car seem to handle better. More an appearance of improvement than something measurable.
