• News: Goodyear GA Warranty Replacement

To everyone who ever reads this board and has ever driven on Eagle GAs and hated them --

This is now my second Fbody, my first was a 2000 Model Pontiac Firebird A4 V6 (red). As far as tires go I must say the eagle GAs are probably the worst I've ever ridden on in my life. They are noisy, they dont corner well, they don't wear well, they're terrible in the rain - god only knows how they would be in the snow... Well I have good news for everyone, they do have a 45,000 mile satisfaction warranty guarantee.

Last time on my Firebird I had Goodyear + Sears work a deal with me on getting the tires replaced. According to the warranty they can only be replaced by a comparable Goodyear tire. Through this notion I ended up going with a set of Eagle HPs -- very poor tires indeed. I won't go into it here but my story is recorded on the board in this forum and those interested may search for it.

In disgust of the HPs I went to Dunlop SP5000s, superior tires in every way shape and form compared with the GAs. Sadly my Firebird was totalled shortly after by a poor california driver who decided to turn left out of the middle lane illegally in front of me.

Fast forward to today, 2/18/03 - the new 2002 Camaro is 10 months old this month and has 10,571 miles on it and the eagle GAs. Wear on the GAs is at a critical point, 4/32" (10/32 is new) and they're supposed to last for 45,000 miles Also I would like to note this is even all around wear, and 90% of these miles are highway.

First of all, Discount Tire rules beyond all belief. In disgust with the wet weather traction I've been having, and with knoweldge of the warranty, I printed out several slips of paper off tire rack showing my warranty, showing comparable tire prices, and even brought in the goodyear warranty statement out of my glovebox for further reference. The end result? Brand new tires for $27/ea + mounting and balancing.

Goodyear Eagle GA new ~~~ = $143/tire
Warranty $$$ back ~~~~~~~ = -$90/tire
P245/50 Yokohama ES100 ~~ = $117/tire
Shipping per tire ~~~~~~~ = $10/tire
Mounting/Demounting ~~~~~ = FREE
Lifetime Rotation/Balance = $15/tire

Total cost out the door to me for brand new W Rated high performance Yokohama ES100 P245/50R16's = $208 + $20/tax = $228

Thats $228 with me walking out the door with a smile on my face, thats the END price mounted and balanced... Thats WITH tax... You cannot beat that deal Even the cheapest P245/50 on tire rack ($56/ea Kumho 711) would have come out to more if I would have had to do it outright without the warranty $$$.

If you need tires, and your GAs are worn out - follow my lead and save yourself some money. The guy was super nice and let me pick whatever tire I wanted - I could have went with the KDW's for $160/tire ($70/tire difference) if I really wanted to! They were most cooperative, they were knowledgeable, and I really do recommend them and their services for all your tire needs if you have one close to you. If you don't, try your luck with Sears like I have done in the past.

Goodluck everyone, I hope this benefits you all in the future! :D

btw, they will be installed next week. They're being shipped (hence the shipping cost of $10/tire) and so I must wait. I will write a review on the tires for the forum in the future.

If you recently got new tires and like them, write a review here in the forum! Make the subject something like

"Tire Review: Kumho ECSTA 712 P245/50R16"

That way people can find it when they search for tires

must have been nicee...
they wouldn't replace mine (BALD, both of them on an open diff, worse after rotation), because "it's really easy to burn them tires off with camuros and farburds"

Yeah thats when I emphasize "But its just a 6cyl, come on!" and if they still dont take it I try another dealer I just got lucky this time and discount tire helped me out. I'm really excited, I love new tires :D
