  • Question about new rims

I placed my order for my new torque thrust II's today, should be here in about 3 weeks. I purchased 18x10's for the rear and 17x9's for the front. I went in there planning to get 17x9's all around, but Tom, a friend of mine that works there has 18x10's on the rear of his 2000 camaro wrapped with goodyear f1's @ 295/40ZR18. He has been rollin on them for about 8 months now and I was really amazed at how aggresive it looks. I'll be getting the f1's @295/40ZR18's rear and 245/45ZR17's front. The question I have is I know my speedo will be outa whack but how can I correct this? I went to the dealer and they said they couldn't reprogram my computer for the difference? . . is this right? any help or suggestions would be appreciated. TIA

Either get someone to program your PCM or get a Hypertech programmer. They are available for the newer models.

the hypertech programmer isnt available for the 00. For some reason they skipped '00, and are beta testing '01. I was told the '01 programmer was out but I went to order it and they sales rep said it was being tested still, with no indication of when its due out.
BUT you did bring up a really good question I was about to post. What's the biggest size rims I can get without having to go with lowprofile tires. I know the backs can be wider, I just need sizes for front and rear. Without hitting wheel wells, of course.

if you would be willing to go with 30s in the back and 40s in the front you would probly bo ok, but 30s would be a bit low for me. I would think that would be the easiest way to go rather than getting your car reprogrammed.

Actually they do have a programmer for the 2000 models. I have one. I believe they are still in beta testing, which is where I got mine from.. a tester. Works great! If anyone is in my area, send me a msg, I'll let you use it.

Thanks for the info guys. As far as getting lower profile tires in the rear, I just can't see it looking as aggresive as Tom's does with the 295/45ZR18's. I mean, damn, the car just screams at you when you look at it. Did I mention his camaro is also lowered 1.5" in the rear?. If I have to live with a whacked speedo, so be it. The car won't see much driving anyways, as my wife has some crazy idea about showing it after the hood and paint is finished. I just though it was was strange that the dealer said they couldn't correct for oversize tires and gears.

One more quik qeustion. I was lookin through my SLP catalog and found a electronic speedometer processor for the LS1 and LT1 cars. will this work for our 3800 rides? . . isn't the speed sensor the same on ours?

Again, thanks in advance for any help
