• Wheel & Tire Question

After a tireless (no pun intended) search on the forum, I have a question that I hope I'm not duplicating. I would like to save my stock wheels for the oh so joyous New England winter, and step up to some low profile 17"s for the summer. What size tire/wheels would I have to get without affecting my speedo? I tried to understand the #'s game, but I can't figger it out.

for 17" you can run the following widths/ratios
255/45R17
275/40R17
285/40R17

All will work without affecing the speedometer.

Cardinal, the 255/45/17 and the 275/40/17 have a .4" difference in height, and a difference of somewhere between 12 and 36 rpm, depending on where you get the figures (BFG's site shows 12 rpm difference). Dewey, depends on which size tires you have now. To find out for sure, check your tire size now, then go to the manufacturer's site (probably going to be Goodyear, if you have the stockers), and look up their tires. They have a tire spec sheet, that will show, among other things, the tire height.
There will be a bit of variation from what their specs are, because they don't always measure them on 16x8 or 17x9 wheels, but it's close enough.
Anyways, after you get that, start looking at other sizes youd like, and compare the heights with yours.

275/40 17s are the best, because they are the biggest you can put on all four corners. You need to be able to rotate them. Thats the key. According to everything I have ever read, they are the same as the stock ride height.
