Ok, it wasn'nt that hard at all. I had bought used HD's for 50 dollars. They did'nt come with the nuts so I used the ones from the stock ones. That **** was hard, but I got it on.

Now the question is do I need a washer on the back nut?

Also when I was tightening the nut the otherside was spinning with it. So I just used some vise grips to keep it still.

Is that ok for it to spin? Does it have to be lined up in any specific way?

I would find a washer and use it when installing the nut. You risk digging into the bare metal of the rear unit (without a washer), and it makes it alot harder to remove later on.
If the thread is spinning, then I'd find a way to hold it securely to properly torque the nut down. You don't want any loose parts...anywhere on your suspension!

My bilsteins had a hex inside them to use an allen wrench to keep them from spinning while you tightened the nut..

No, you know what it probably was. My uncle had to file the thread because it looked like it was smashed. That's what I think happened.
