  • which drag tires used only for the track?

whats up guys, not sure if this should be here or in drag so i just put it here. ok.....right now i got chrome Z06s with 275/40 tires.

What i wanna do is take advantage of the lower weight salad shooters and put some drag radials on them that i will only use at the track.

what drag tires u guys recommend? thru searches ive noticed that the nitto 555s are good also the mickey thomspons. this is my main question

if u look at my sig i have 4.10s and significant power from my motor work. would putting drag radials on the lightweight salad shooters be able to grip? or should i keep the chromes on the rear for the added weight and keep stock rims up front

    thanx, Neal

I gather from your sig that you have a manual tranny? Factory or aftermarket clutch? Exactly what kind of power are you putting down (dyno numbers/track times [60'/ET/MPH] )?

In my 96 bird, I had no problem with drag radials (on weld draglites) spraying a 100 shot. On my TA I used the same Nitto drag radials to the low 12s before I went to slicks.

As for keeping the chrome wheels on the back for added weight, that's not a good idea. Any added rotating weight will hurt you. If you're looking for a lighter wheels, you might consider looking at Weld wheels (15", NOT the XP series). I posted a thread in the drag racing section a long time ago comparing the weight of my stock wheels versus my draglites, I'll see if I can find it.

I have not dynoed the car but I have unoffically used the g-tech to gauge times. With my chrome rims on I ran about a 14.5....So Iw ould assume my power is somewhere around 265-275hp.

I do have a manual tranny with a stock clutch.

Tell me more about these weld draglites. Like where to get them, what tires you think would be best to use with them. Thanx in advance

Weld wheels are very good... check the e-mail I just sent you.

BFG drag radials are good... and with heads, cam and 4.10s you had better be movin a lot better than a 14.5

Do you have your car tuned for the heads/cam/gears???

Ask anyone who goes to a track and they will tell you. BFG is ok, Nitto is good for daily driver, and MT is the one that hooks up.

People running 1.4 and 1.2 60's on the MT street radial I think.

The MT is more of a drag tire and the other two are more street. I've seen the BFG's and they are a joke compared to Mickey's. Nittos, they have good tread life but the traction isnt comparable.

The standard BFGs are good (better than the new sport compact ones), but the MTs are better. MTs are extremely soft, but they hook up well.
