• Pothole he**!!!

    Hey guys...

I'm a total newbie when it comes to suspension, but I was just wondering how much damage a pothole occurs on a car when you run over them. I dodge at least 40 potholes on the way to school everyday, and at 7 in the morning, one or two always slips past and I hit them. They are usually about a foot in diameter, and up to 3-4 inches deep ( guesstamation lol ) Every time I run one of, I grind my teeth and squeeze the steering wheel. :( How much damage do these do to our cars? I'm very sick of winter right now :( With pot holes and baseball sized ice cubes in the road... argh!!!

The biggest thing I think is damage to your tires. It's real easy to break a belt inside the tire when you hit thoes. If you have low profile tires, the next thing that might be damaged is the wheel itself. Then there is wear and tear on every suspension compenent.

If you hit 'em you hit 'em, not a whole lot you can always do to avoid them. Just make sure to check your tires to make sure there are no bulges sticking out of them.

If you drive reeeeely fast they'll not be as noticeable

Everyone is right, joking aside, and my best guess is that it will throw off the alignment a little over time. Just keep checking your tires and wheels and suspension components regularly and make sure you don't end up with a leaky shock or something Sorry about the potholes.
