• which tires have been good to you?

my mom is buying me a set of new tires for Christmas. I was just curious as to what tires you guys have gotten good life/traction/wet road traction out of. It is stored for the winter so ice and snow are not a problem. But it will be out in the spring so rain is an issue. The tires I currently have on there are goodyear eagle HP (235)
Those tires have been really good to me. I got 53,000 miles out of them, and would have gotten more but my front end alignment is off and wore half the front tire down on the left side. They handle really well in the rain, get pretty good traction on dry pavement too. BUT they splatter tire gel all over my car because of the ridges on the sidewall. Minor issue I know, but if there is an equal or better tire out there that you guys have come across, please pipe up.

If its between yokoham avs ES100s and kuhmos 712s I'd get the yokohamas

BFG KDWs are pretty nice but a little more pricey.

My 712's sucked. Dunlop SP9000's were good but, the only street legal tire I could hook on was the Nitto 555r drag radial.

Based on first impressions of the summary and the review, this is how I would lean
BFG KDW (I really like this tire for some reason)
Yokohama
Dunlop
Potenza
Kuhmo
ContiExtremeContact
Wouldn't even consider the sport contact

As I read the ratings the most SENSIBLE tire appears to be the ContiExtremeContact
Best overall ratings, preferred the most, and has the best tread life.
HOWEVER, I like the BFG KDW better :D
Based on pure sensibility it looks like it should be
ContiExtremeContact
BFG KDW
Potenza
Yokohama
Dunlop
Kuhmo
Sport Contact

Thanks for the input guys, as always, it is greatly appreciated. Any other suggestions are still very welcome, I am not getting these tires for a few months yet (get the snow off the ground)
That's why I love this site, I don't have the experience yet to make a great decision, but between the rest of you guys, I think we pull it off

I love my Kumho ecsta 711's, 245/50/16's.

They are cheap *** tires, but the best bang for the buck tires i've ever had. They were a significant improvement over the Goodyear eagle t/r's (235/55) that carmax had on the car when I bought it. I love them. I'm sure the 712's are better, but I couldn't afford the 255/50/16's that were 712's.

Get Kumho 711s if they make them in your size, get 712s if they don't. You can't beat the value.
KDWs are almost 2X as much.

A street tire won't hook on the strip well, so don't buy street tires to work on the strip, you are wasting money.

Buy some good value street tires (nothing majorly generic).
If you race, buy some BFG drag radials or even ET streets for the strip. You wil be a LOT happier on the street and at the strip. You will save money in the long run over running drag radials all the time.

The Khumos I had on my car when I first bought it I liked alot.

I now have Falcen Ziex 512's on it and HATE them. They are very very stick and rarely break loose but have a weak side wall that flexs on corners (makes the car harder control) and they wear very fast. On about 8000 and they are getting bad.
