KDWs are almost 2X as much.

A street tire won't hook on the strip well, so don't buy street tires to work on the strip, you are wasting money.

Buy some good value street tires (nothing majorly generic).
If you race, buy some BFG drag radials or even ET streets for the strip. You wil be a LOT happier on the street and at the strip. You will save money in the long run over running drag radials all the time.
I have never raced at the strip, and rarely race on the street, so not really a concern
Also price is not so much a concern either, it's a Christmas gift and she said she will spend 500.

Honestly, even though you guys are saying good things about the Kuhmo's, I have heard on;ly bad things. My cousin had them on his WS6 and said the wobble at high speeds, and wear too quick. A buddy had them on his ranger (same size as my cousin, 275 35 17 or something) and said in heat they get really sticky so they wear out real bad, and in cold they spin non stop.

771 712 and es100 are all junk.. i have had them all.. and each one has its flaws..

bridgestone re-730 is the best all around tire i have ever owned.. however i think they replaced that model with something that has a new name..

they arnt cheep.. but man they perform..

ContiXtrem continental contact 255/40ZR x 18 have been truley a excelent tire. They handle very well at all speeds and tread life to date has been good. also in rain they keep traction just as well as dry pavement. only thing I dont like is these tires tend to be a little noisey. But thats what 12'' JL audios are for..

Since you live in MI, try the BFGoodrich Traction T/As

60,000 mi warranty, snow traction, good in wet and dry. $115/ea or thereabouts off tirerack, and sears should meet/beat the price.

            Goodluck!

thanks, I drive a 4x4 s10 in the winter though
so I'm good with just summer tires

              *****

I am going with the BFG KDW's
seem to be a good tire
my cousin with his ws6 gives them nothing but praise
said they lasted many a burnout no problem
seems to be a good choice and look really good at the same time

thanks for the options, I just didnt want to get the goodyear's again

I can attest the Conti's ExtremeContact are excellent winter tires, I have them on my Subaru.

If you don't have a need for an all season then I would go with the Kumho 712.

I started with a worn out set of Goodyear all seasons. They hydraplaned all over the place. Next were Futura GTX tires. They were really hard but they lasted a long time. Not good at the drag strip though. Next was the Khumo 711. Much better tire but still a little hard. They got better traction at the track. Now I have Toyo Proxes 4's. These are awesome. Really sticky once you gat some heat in them. So far they are out performing the other tires I've tried by a long shot. Haven't gotten to the track with these yet but I think they'll get the best 60'so far.

well for the money I'd say go with the traction ta's also. I have had them for almost 6 months now and about 4k miles. I really like the way they stick in the wet and dry. Snow isn't an issue for me. These tires were second on my want list, my #1 choice was out of stock at the time.
The only flaw I have noticed thus far is they seem to have gotten a little louder at highway speeds but not bad, they made my car ride and drive soooo much better over the old Goodyear Eagle GT2's that were on there.

I had good year eagle #1's and they are nice but I don't think they make them any more. They were an all weather tire but look great.
I have had them for like 3 years only been home to use them for one winter.

I'd have to go with Dayton Daytonas. My first set lasted almost 60K and they hold a wet road much better than the stock Goodyears.
