  • Noise when turning

My car is making a funny noise when I turn to the left or to the right. It makes this noise while I am driving or while I am setting still. I checked my power steering fluid and it was low. I added some fluid to it, but it still makes the noise. My car has about 64,000 miles on it. The noise kind of sounds like when you are parked on a smooth concrete floor and you turn the wheels while setting still and your tires make a noise as they rub across the concrete. I guess you could call it a whining noise. Anyone have any ideas of what this could be? Thanks!

I checked to the belt and it is fine. I have narrowed it down to the steering column. Could it be the bushing where the column comes through the firewall? If so, how hard are they to replace?
      Thanks,
      Andy

Turn your wheel all the way one direction, when the wheel stops, push it a little harder that direction. Does the noise get any louder, or not? Your description makes me think your power steering pump is just gettin a little wore out.

I tried that, and the noise does not get any louder. The reason I think it is in the steering column is because even with the engine off, I can turn the wheel and it still makes the noise.
