  • wheel spacers required for 17s''?

    http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?P=80046

are they just bsing to sell it? why would it be required for all 17+ wheels? who here doesnt use them but has 17+?

They're spacers for the bump stops to prevent your rear suspension from bottoming out and the inside of the wider tire coming in contact with the wheel well.

Most aftermarket wheels use a ~40-something offset that gives enough space so you don't have to worry about rubbing. If you're running replica wheels (ZR1, Z06, etc.) that have a ~55 offset you may have an occasional rub. If you don't haul passengers in the back, or have installed stiffer springs/shocks then you shouldn't have too much to worry about.

They don't go on the wheel. They go between the body and the bump stop. The axle will hit the rubber block rather than bottom out the suspension and risk rubbing the inside of the fenders with your tires.

Maybe it was because my springs were shot, but I definately needed them when I put my 275/40/17's on in sept of '03. They rubbed like crazy! Since then I've replaced my rear springs and noticed the back of the car sits a bit higher, so I may not need the spacers anymore, but they are staying anyways.

I used 285/40/17's on the 10 spoke 17'' ss wheels, not problems. Well except traction lol.
