• What kinda brake fluid?

I'm planning on flushing my brake system with a power bleeder. I figured I'd just buy the best stuff I can find, some synthetic DOT 5.1 or something. Anyone have any suggestions?

My bad posting this in drivetrain =)

It just that a lot of clutch fluids are the same as brake fluid and I thought I might get some answer there.

Thanks to Fin or Teal for moving it

Motul or Castrol makes some of the highest temp fluid possible. I would probably just run a good DOT4.

I chucked the dot 5.1 brake fluid idea after reading some information and determining it would not be very compatible with our ABS system. You can put it in and run it, but there are no gains to be had from using it. It's also silicon based which gm does not recommend for its brake systems.

I picked up some ATE Superblue fluid.

I agree that sticking with GM's recommendation makes sense here.

But, FYI, it's DOT 5 that's silicone based, and DOT 5.1 is not. I don't know why they decided to use those confusing numbers.

If you have stock brakes, stick with what GM recommends as stock fluid: DOT-3 or DOT-4. DOT-5.1 is not advisable for use with stock brakes.
