Need help identifying Y87 wheel/tire codes

I'd appreciate it if anyone with a Y87 code Camaro could check their build tags and see which tire code they have. It will be a QFZ, QLC or QCB code..the first two are 245/16 tires and the QCB is a 235/16. SCCA has the QCB listed as the Y87 tire which allows us to upgrade 20mm to 255/16 tires such as the Goodyear GSCS, however, I seem to remember that my 1998 with a Y87 came with 245/16's. If I can provide SCCA with a build car from GM with either of the two 245/16 codes, they'll allow us to run Kumho V710s which are 265/16. In SCCA racing every little bit helps. So I'd greatly appreciate any Y87 owners out there letting me know what their codes are or if anyone knows where I can obtain such GM literature. Thanks, Richard Pryor

Robert, thanks...I already had checked that information out, however, since the Y87 is presumably the same for Camaros and Firebirds there may be some variations as SCCA recognizes the 245/16 tire as the tire size for Firebirds even though they specify the 235/16 for Camaros...so I need real world examples. Please, anyone with a Y87 car, what is your wheel code? Thanks for your help. Richard

V6 came with 215/60 standard and 235/55 optional. There was no option for 245/50 on the V6.

White = NO. Gray = YES.

My Y87 came with 235s. Everything I've ever seen about Y87 says 235s, all years. I could be wrong, but I don't think any V6s came with 245s stock from GM. Sorry.

Bob...SCCA lists the y87 for Firebirds with the 245/16 in the Specifications for competition...which only means that somewhere they obtained that information...it might be accurate for one brief period...that's why I'd like to get as many Y67 owners to check their tire codes...I tend to believe that there is a slim chance that at some time GM used 245/16 on the F bodies...so I keep clutching at straws as I really would prefer to use Kumho's new V710's...we've used Goodyear and Hoosiers but the new Kumho is absolutely half a second a lap faster minimum, depending upon the track...so if anyone reading this has a Y87 please check...if you turn up a 245/16 tire code I'll fly you to the Summer Nationals at Laguna Seca, all expenses paid for you and a friend...thanks, Richard

I've got a 99 Camaro with the Y87 package. The car had 235s on it when I bought it used. I checked to see if (for some strange reason) one of the codes wats there, but found only QCB. Even in the door jamb, there is a sticker dedicated to tire info. 235s show up there too. I don't think your 98 was supposed to have 245s, either you remember wrong, or the dealer put some V8 wheels/tires on it. Something *MIGHT* show up, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I think the 245 is there since that was the stock tire on the Formula and Trans Am. I know in Solo you can use anything that was available stock, such as 1LE sway bars.

99 Y87 bought new...came with 235/55/16. I can look for the code on the car if you still need it. No V6 ever came with 245's.

Ah, I can dream.....from the tech database it seems all RS models are 235 also...anyone aware of any RS models with 245's? SCCA will accept that too.....you're right my memory of the 1998's is six years old and I'm 57 so it's inaccurate...I appreciate everyone's help....just one car, that's all I need, just one car that came with 245's!!! thanks, Richard

Bought my 96RS with the Y87 and it came with 235-16-55 touring tires. This was an upgrade for the v6 cars. This was also the base tire package for the z28. 245 performance tires were an option on the z28. I have a 95 and 96 camaro brochure from chevy and both state this.
