So I'm taking my skinnies off... I take 3 lugs out w/no problem. The next lug starts to come out but then it starts to slow down (using impact wrench). I move on to the last lug which only turns a little bit, then my impact wrench wouldn't turn it anymore!? I go back to the other one and it comes out some more, but it's alot of work for the wrench. Finally it starts spinning some (still a little work for the wrench) but it's not coming out!!! So now I got one lug that won't budge with the mighty impact wrench, and another that will turn but won't come out... NOW WHAT?!?!?!

Watch out, those skinnies are probably lightweight wheels. Try and try to get it off with the impact wrench. If not, get a hammer and chisel. This only happens when idiots at car shops torque stuff waaaaaaay to tight, stripping / bending the threads of the wheelstuds and nuts. Do your own tire changing from now on, it's the best adivce I can give you. And get a box of wheelstuds and nuts (if you need some, mail me).

Well, I took the easy way out. A trip to the Firestone shop, $50, and 3 new wheel studs later, I'm all set
To answer some previous replies, I did in fact put these on myself. My mistake though, was to do it in a hurry.-Travis
99 Trans Am, Pewter, A4 Forged, stalled, and cammed
85 Buick Regal WH1 T-Type It\'d be cool if it ran...
94 Camaro 3.4, Teal, M5 The daily beater

Its not necissarily caused by overtightening. Usually it is from the lug nut not being installed properly in the first place, and then the inmpact cross threads the crap out of it. 90% a customer puts their own stuff on (like a spare), one of the studs breaks taking it off because usually people don't know how to put the lugs on and messed them up. Very rarely does our shop mess studs up, but hey, when you remove and install 1000s of lugs a day, its bound to happen. Take the time to clean the studs before putting lugs on, and put them on several turns before using the impact and you should be ok.1997 Chevrolet Camaro v6 - 13.8@104MPH

Ah, just the mention of using a cheater bar conjurs up feelings of mirth and satisfaction. The manly feeling I get when my 130 pound frame applies over 450 Ft-lbs of torque to an inanimate object.
You haven't lived until you've had a car up on a rack, with a 6 foot fulcrum and your hanging on the thing bouncing up and down to break a bolt free...or just break the bolt all together.
Of course, the other tool in any mechanics arsenal, and any good mechanic will swear by is the "big freaking hammer" or BFH. You can't just about fix anything with one of those.

Just an FYI, weld drag lite lug nuts should be torqued to 80 foot pounds and NO more.
Do NOT use an impact wrench on them to tighten them.Race car - gone but not forgotten - 1997 firebird V6
