  • Mixing solid and hollow sway bars

i already have the 1LE sway bar up front with poly bushings. im thinking of adding a 22 MM spohn sway bar in the back but its a solid piece. any disadvantages?

you're swaybar in the back is solid now. stock f-body swaybars are hollow front solid back.

dont up your rear sway bar too much. you'll get oversteer and the car will actually handle worse.

v6 bob schooled me on this a while back. i believe the optimal 1LE setup is with a 19mm rear bar. dont quote me on that tho.

yeah, definitely do a search to find v6bob's posts about sway bars. eventhough i didn't take his advise, i think there is a lot of merit in what he says.

Solid vs. hollow is no issue. You only care about the relative stiffness between the front and back bar. A hollow bar is about 10% less stiff than a solid of the same diameter, which is not too much in the scheme of things.

Of course, up front the hollow bar can be quite a weight savings, especially at the 35mm size..

you can mix hollow and solid, it will work fine. Just beware increasing the rear too much, yes. I wouldn't exceed 21mm.

22mm is TOO much with the 1LE front.

BTW with my 32/21 1LE set up the car handles differently between the winter 215/16s and the summer 275/17s. The 275 does not have as much oversteer. So tire size DOES matter.

Why do you want the bigger rear sway?

better cornering or a better launch?
