8"= 235-255

Sidewall height is up to you.

i was thinking about
245/40/17

how should i go about deciding the width 235-255? what does a bigger size do? anything?

I say go w/ either 255 or 265 width tires. wider tire=better tracion off-the-line, as well as better cornering. If you are gonna get a HPP3 for your car, go w/ whatever sidewall you want, but remember, less sidewall means less traction off the line, but that much better cornering. try to find a 255-45-ZR17 or a 265-40-ZR17. either of these have just engough sidewall to help keep traction as well as a low enough profile to look cool and take corners well.

First pick the tires you want then see what sizes they offer.

EDIT. I forgot that you want Kumhos. Sidewall height depends on what you want the tire for.

255/45WR17 is 26" tall
255/40WR17 is 25" tall
245/40WR17 is 24.7" tall

And so on.

Shorter tire will have the same effect as getting shorter gears(numerically higher).

255mm is 10.0".
8" is 203.2mm.

You don't your tires sticking out too much. 255 is probably the biggest I would go with 8" rim when running street tires.

235 is 23.5 cm when 255 is 25.5 cms... the wider it is, the more it grabs on to the road, and (i think ) the more drag it gives... (and also a bit heavier)

I have 255/45/17's and they are perfect. They aren't real low profile buy they aren't too tall either. I think they look the best as far as overall looks.

Why not just go with 275/40Z like the T/A?
