Wanted to give everyone an update. The caliper swing-arm WAS bent, thanks to TransAmCreations selling me bad parts. They made every excuse in the world, but wouldn't own up to their error. I ended up using the bad caliper I bought from them as a core charge at my local parts store. That was the first problem.
The second problem, and the one that makes you want to scratch your head, was that the mechanic did some "modifications" to my brake pad. Before we decided that the caliper arm was bent, he had CUT the edges of the pad off with a disc grinder, thinking they might have been too tight in the bracket. That makes no sense. His cut pad sat loose in the caliper, even after I replaced the caliper and arm. This greatly reduced brake effectiveness.
Replacing the bent parts (burn in Hell TACreations) helped, but replacing the cut pad helped even more. My buddy and I spend a half hour on a saturday morning swapping out the pads, and it's working better than I could have hoped for. The car decelerates very smoothly, and has much better stopping power. My rears are wearing evenly, and I didn't seem to need a proportioning valve. I now have a complete set of drum brakes up for sale, which I might post in the right section later on.
