  • Squeeling Brakes

Tried this in the General Tech area and it got closed for some reason. Ah well, I'll try it here. Have a problem, my brakes are squeakin. I replaced the pads and rotors about 1500 miles ago. It is just recently that it has started. It only squeaks when u apply normal pressure to the brakes. Not when ur hard on them or when your soft. Also, the sound seems to subside after they are warmed up. I have run the car backwards and braked a couple times to make sure there wasnt a stone caught in there. Whats up?! I havent glazed them have i?

What kind of pads did you buy. If they are a lifetime warranty pad they probably have too much metallic material and that is what causes squeaking. Other than that there has to be a pad that is wearing oddly. I highly recommend the NAPA Ceramix brake pad. These have very little metallic and very scarcely do I find brake dust.

It's most likely the pad material. Try different type of pads, ones known for being quiet. Then break them in correctly.

I hate squeaks, so hard to diagnose. It could be the pads, but there a quick and cheap thing that may fix the pads that you already have. Permatx makes something called Disc Brake Quiet. It comes in either an arosol can, or a small packet. You pull off the pads, spray (or squeeze) a little on the back of the pad, and put it back together.

It creates a thin plastic barrier between the back of the pad and the caliper so that they don't rub against each other and squeak. I would give this a shot before buying new pads. But if ya got the money, might as well. Either way you would have to take the brakes apart again.

They are Raybestus (sp?) Semi-metalic pads. I srayed brake cleaner on the rotors the other day and that seemed to make it better, but not gone. I may try the anti-squeel stuff before i go throwing away another 70 bucks. For the record, i did break them in correctly. They didnt start squeaking til about 2 weeks ago. And they have been on the car for about 3 months. But ill try the anti-squeel stuff, thanx guys
