I'm new here, but saw there's some real good info out there on some other stuff. Was hoping maybe someone could let me know how much work would be involved if I decided to change the wheel bearing (hub unit) on my own on the '97 'bird.
I'm guessing you are talking about the front hub? if so it's really quite simple since the front bearing is a sealed unit
1. take off tire
2. take off brake caliper
3. take off rotor
4. unplug abs sensor from rear of hub
5. unbolt hub/bearing assembly from rear, should be 3 or 4 bolts
6. reverse procedure to reinstall.
that's an overview but should be about everything you need to know, I however am not sure if that hub comes with the wheel studs already installed but I am betting they are. The assembly is going to run you between $100-$150 (US$) depending on where you buy it from.
