  • BIG TIRES ON STOCK 16" RIMS

Whats the biggest tire size you can put on the stock 16" rims? I dont know for sure but i think the rim size is 16x8". I want the back ones to be as biggest as i can get but in the 55 to 60 profile. And I want the front ones to be in 55 to 60 profile and big enough so that i can turn without hitting suspension components.

    What do you mean big? do you mean wide? if so then 60 or 55 is not really the profile you may want to consider. For stock rims, here are a few choices;
    245-45-16(LOW PROFILES)
    245-50-16(MOST COMMON CHOICE)
    255-50-16(BIGGEST SIZE ON ALL FOURS)
    265-50-16(REARS ONLY)

255/50/16s are the shiznit dude! Get some Firehawks and never look back! They even have little lips to keep your rims from scraping on curbs when you parallel park! Plus the treadwear is high, dry AND wet traction is sweet, and the tire itself just looks tight as hell. Get em from tirerack.com for like $120~ a pop. Good stuff!

well, you can actually fit a 315/75/16 on the stock rim, but that won't fit in the fender well... but i think that 255/50/16 would be the best, i have those on the back, they look good.

this is the first I heard about installing 255/50/16's on our cars
How slopy are they? do they have more body roll because they are bigger?

I'm going to need new tires next year.

no they're just fine, the tire heights are as follows...

                  235/55/16 - 26.18
                  245/50/16 - 25.65
                  255/50/16 - 26.04
                  265/50/16 - 26.43

so in from going from the stock 235/55/16 to the 255/50/16 you actually get a shorter tire, but wider...

So since they're smaller overall this means our speedos are all off right? I know its not even much of a difference (.39) but that would mean we're actually going slower than our speedo shows right? Guess that can't be a bad thing afterall, lol

It's a really tiny diff between 235/55/16 and 255/50/16- enough to be within the range of how much the exterior diameter changes as the rubber wears off.

I did not choose 245/50/16's becase of the smaller outside diameter & speedo issue.

Also, I pulled out my original issue brochure for the 4th gen Firebirds wehn they first came out. The upgrade at that time was TAs came with 245/50/16s. You can see the tires look smaller.

I like the looks of 255/50/16's better.

The largest legal DOT size is a P255. If you cram something wider than that on the rim, I wish you the best of luck.

                              so 255/50/16's all around?
                              would you need any spacers?
can you still turn all the way like with 215's?
                              i have stock 215/60/16's.
kumho ecsta supra 712's from tirerack are 88 each for 255/50/16.
