  • Front brakes on the rear?

I did a search, found a similar thread. But had no direct answer. My friend upgraded his LT1 brakes to LS1 brakes and gave me his calipers. If I got the mounting hardware, could it be done?

WTF? Why not? They are just calipers.

Because the swept area, piston area, and other factors help determine the balance between front and rear braking force. You'll change all that and possibly either make the rear brakes ineffective or make them over-effective. Not good in any hard braking.

exactly.. im sure you could go out and hand fabricate some bracket that would make mounting possible. and Iim sure you could rig up pads and rotors that would work together. but assuming you could get this all to work. you would still have issues with the rear brakes being too strong, thus shifting your brake bias waaaay to the rear. I dunno bout you, but the first time i lost the *** end going into a turn cause my rear brakes locked was the last time i wanted that to happen. and thats with teh factory drums. granted my suspension was stock at the time, but its not a fun feeling seeing trees rapidly come toward you. go ahead and do what you want. but this swap is not worth it and is potentially disasterous.

why not... if you can fit them in there, i'm sure you'd have the saavy to put in a simple proportioning valve. but i would suggest a larger rotor and stronger caliper up front anyway.

not to mention you you would loose a functioning ebrake.

front brakes do 90% of your braking...it would be very foolish and dangerous to have that much braking power in the rear w/o seriously upgrading your front brakes

agreed... if you want rear disk, get the z rear disks.. hell, its easier if you can just find the whole rear end while you are at it. plus you'll get a posi too.. do that if anything. it is seriously dangerous to have that much rear braking force without a seriously upgraded front braking system and accompanying suspension mods to match.
