  • How can I plug my brake lines so they won't leak during a brake job?

    I need to rebuild my calipers, and I am going to use this guide: http://www.installuniversity.com/ins...er_rebuild.htm

    It says to use a bolt to stop the lines from leaking fluid....but this guide is mainly for LS1 brakes. Is the same type of thing (on step 1) on a 3.4 V6 system? Granted, I need to change my fluid anyway, but I don't want air getting in the system and then having to bleed it out for a long time.

    If you need to change the fluid then don't worry about it. The time it will take to bleed the system of old fluid won't change due to air in the lines....

      Well, I wouldn't want to get air inside the ABS unit (if equipped) and have to bleed that, so I'd plug the lines if at all possible.

        When I rebuilt my calipers, I went to the autostore and bought some rubber vacuum line caps and used them to cap off my brake lines. They worked great and cheap too!

          a spring clamp should pinch off the rubber line enough that it doesn't leak

            Yeah, it's the same thing. V8 or V6.

            I suppose that probably wouldn't damage the brake line, but I still wouldn't want to stress it like that.

            The conservative approach is to block the line without stressing it and get a professional bleed job afterwards.

              Thanks for all of your help guys; I think I'm going to pick up some of those vacuum line caps before I start this job.
