  • debating tires, help??

Hey guys, well, my tires are starting to bite the dust. The last owner never got an alignment it appears after lowering the car and these tires are about to die. I have the 17" and 18" C5 rims, and need some help with some good replacements. I found these
Continental ContiExtremeContact on Tirerack.com, and they have really good ratings; They're continentals though, I've heard they suck as performance tires, any input? Tirerack also has the Kuhmo Ecsta MX's for a decent price, and I've heard about a lot of people using those. Anyone have any input to help me choose a good tire? I want a nice tire, but I'm really in a budget bind and can't spend tons. I really appreciate the help. Thanks!

Two more possibilities along with questions. onlinetire.com has the Falken Fk-451 for incredibly cheap, is this anything good? And what about regular nitto 555's?? are these ok for front tires too, or just good for the rear launches?? Onlinetire has a good price on them too. I appreciate it!

If you *really* want the superior tires, the Kumho MXs take the cake for the dollar. My dad is running them on his C5 and they're so much better than F1s for Goodrich's... its quite astounding.

Most people on here want a great tire for a low dollar, and I love my Yoko ES100s for that since they don't have the problems the Kumho 712s exhibit.

But for a true Max performance tire, I would skip the Continentals... I know a lot of unhappy vette owners with those.

Hey, thanks for the reply, so far I am leaning towards the Kuhmo's, plus you get a free set of mini r/c cars with the purchase of 4, haha. But the response makes me feel better about them still. Anyone else have any input with these tires?? Thanks!

What size tire are you looking at, and what do you want the tire to help you do?

I'm using 245/45/17's up front, and 275/40/18's in the rear. I basically just want a front tire that has great traction and stability in wet and dry, not necessarily like an autocross/supreme tire. I'm looking more for durability and reliability in the front. The rear I'd like a tire that will last awhile (18's are expensive!!) but at the same time will maintain a decent amount of traction; I'm gonna put in some 3.73's later this summer. I'm not gonna be burning out all over, but will probably play around on the weekends a bit. Basically the best tire I can get for the cheapest price. These rims that came with the car are costing me an arm and a leg to replace, I almost want to buy a whole new set of stock rims with tires. You still think the Kuhmo's or something else?? BTW, Onlinetire.com has great prices if anyone else is looking for new tires too.

kumho's are good for the price. yoko's are sweet too tho. of course, u could go w/ goodyears. my friend w/ a corvette keeps the teard on them pretty well, except he uses TCS all the time.

Anyone know anything about the Falken's? Are they any good? I can't afford the Goodyears again, those things are expensive. And remember these are going on my camaro, so I wont have the notion to burnout as much as I probably would with a vette. It's kinda funny, the kuhmo's will cost me just a tad over $500 for the 4 of them, but right now there is a set of ZO6 Replica's selling on eBay for $405 that are wrapped in Kuhmo 712's. I may actually just buy the whole new set of wheels so I can get the new tires on em and then sell my old wheels. Almost sounds too good to be true, haha.
