  • Sqeeking sound from rear shock

it just started happening last night.. when i was going over a bump i can hear sqeeking sound coming from the rear right side as it went over the bump... its like if you press and release a spring.. like that. Also i pushed down the back of my car to see where the sound was coming from.. it is coming from the rear tire and most proably from the shock.

Has anybody else needed to change their shocks coz it went bad. how much are those.. i dont need any fancy ones just same as the stock. And also is there any directions to change the shock by myself.

i checked autozone website they dont seem to carry it at the store.. anyother auto store might carry??

    thanks

Do you have access to a Haynes manual. They give pretty detailed instructions. You can pick it up from Pep Boys or Advanced Auto for about $17.00
If your going to replace a shock, replace both at the same time.
Now the front shocks are a little harder. I believe most camaros are coil over shocks.

Which is more likely to go bad first.. the spring or the shock (rear end)?

I would have to say the shock. I have not heard of to many springs going bad. I'm sure someone will have a more detailed answer concerning springs.

Same thing happens to me, I get a little chirp noise.

People tell me it's the shocks. If I were you I would make sure the spare tire and jack are all tight though before dropping the cash. They could be moving around, but I even took it for a drive with them out and heard it.

Make sure everything is tight under there. Check the ends of the lower trailing arms. They are 18mm bolts. That made my car noisy as hell when loose.

Also check the panhard bar....where it mounts to the frame of the car (next to the drivers side rear wheel). Mine cracked the mounting location and it squeaks like all hell!

My springs were squeaking too,i turned the spring so it fit right in the isolator up top and no more squeak.

Check your swaybar bushings and endlinks, Ive never had a shock bushing squeak. I do keep my swaybar bushings/endlinks greased though, and my bushings are rubber even.

Should replace the shocks anyway. Its really easy and the stock ones go bad quick.

Yea, when i go over a little sip in the road my car feels like it is bouncing 3-4 times after i hit the dip. I think this might be caused by my shocks as well.

I replaced my shocks in my 99 about a year or so ago. They do go bad quickly but aren't difficult at all to replace.
