• Choosing the right tire

Not sure if this goes in the lounge but here goes:

I am planning on getting new SS take off rims. They will be 17x9, could some one explain how to choose the right tires? The thing is that I want to keep the outer diameter of the tire the same (or close) so that I don't lose acceleration. I would like to get something in the 245 width range.

Also which brand would you guys recommend. I am looking mainly for a good bargain. But not necessarily for "Wallmart" tires.

Thanks

PS. I currently have 215s on 16x8 steel rims.

get some 275/45/17 and be happy. they will look nice. 245 is to skinny for that size rim. 245's look ok on 8 inch rims. kumho are decent tires. you wont hook on them but they are good all around tires

Do these rims seem reasonably priced to you? they seem too good to be true at $599. I wonder if I am missing out something. Also would it be bad taste to put SS wheels on a V6 even if they don't say SS?

1. You can get these wheels for less from lmperformance or acaperformance.

2. On a 17x9 wheel you should run one of the following sizes, all other sizes are taller or shorter than stock.
P255/45R17
P275/40R17

3. You lose acceleration by increasing the wheel assembly inertia, and this is accomplished simply by going to a larger wheel. You won't lose much with SS wheels since theyre light weight, but it will be present.

Here is a good list of tires I've tried and recommend in order of cost in P275/40R17 size:
• Kumho ECSTA 712
• Yokohama AVS ES100 (I'm running these on my Camaro)
• Kumho ECSTA MX
• Dunlop SP5000 (I enjoyed these on my prev firebird)
• Pirelli PZero Nero
• Bridgestone Potenza RE750
• Dunlop SP8000
• Firestone Firehawk SZ50EP
• BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW
• Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3
• Yokohama AVS Sport
• Michelin Pilot Sport

The P255/45 series offers the inexpensive Kumho 711 and if you're on an extreme budget but want nice tires, these H-Rated rubbers are great. I think theyre only $75/ea or so.

Thanks! I can't believe I missed on that fact. I think I will still go with the 17" they still have to be MUCH lighter than these steelies I have now anyway. I checked lmperformance and they are only 4 bucks cheaper but SLP has a special where they give free shipping I think I am going to get the rims even if I dont put them on immediately (need 4 new tires) cause it seems like a good deal to pass on.

Do any of you guys have experience with this supplier?

www.chevypartx.com

I found the same wheels here for $283, I am guessing that is for a whole set of 4. But I am skeptical because they have this disclaimer:

"OEM Alloy Wheel/Rim - Original equipment wheels that are reconditioned to look like brand new wheels"
