  • 2 Questions on Wheels

Ok, first of all... can anyone recomend a good set of 17 inch wheels. Im interested in a good lightweight wheel that isnt too expensive. (would it be possible to find a 17 inch wheel that would be lighter than the stock 16's... or should i stick with those) I'm interested in acceleration more than looks and handling. Would the stock 16's just be better for that.

My other question is about gears in relation to wheels. Ive been wanting to go from 3.08's to 3.42's for some time now. would a change in gears like this be the same as getting bigger or smaller wheels. would bigger diameter wheels and tires be the same as getting a higher ratio or would it counteract it?

You can find 17's that aren't much more than 16's in weight. It is getting harder to find 16's for our cars, but the tires are cheaper for now. Get the 3.42's, you'll love them. As far as 17's changing the axle ratio, they won't if you keep the same overall height of wheel/tire size the same as your stock ones. If your overall height gets taller you will lose some low end performance and conversely if they are smaller in height than the stock ones you will gain some low end but lose some top speed as well as throw off the speedo. Try and keep the overall height about the same.
