is my axle bent?

as you all know i hit the curb the other day with my back right tire hard enough to crack the rim. well i got a new wheel and remounted tire and got it balanced. Now my right rear wheel is squeaking like no other and is really wobbley when i drive. Do you think i bent my axle?

Could be. Put on a rim you know is straight, get the back end in the air, have a buddy look at the wheel while you put it in drive. (Do all the safety stuff plz, chock the wheels so you dont drive through a wall) let the wheel rotate and if it moves side to side or up and down, then yes you do. I believe we have 28 spline axles, if you need a new axle shaft

How much does a new axle shaft cost?

a set of new moser shafts cost $300. never piced new ones from GM. try looking for a used set from a junk yard.

About how many hours would it take a mechanic to put a new shaft in??

If it's on a lift and he knows what he/she is doing, no more than 1 hour.

-Remove rear cover and drain fluid.
-Unbolt brake calipers from backing plate and remove from rotor (remove the rotor too).
-Remove bolt from the pin in the center of the gears and remove pin.
-Push axle inwards towards the center of the car and the C-Clip will fall off.
-Pull axle out.

Installation is basically everything here in reverse. Don't forget to replace fluid. ;)

well, its not about how long it takes him, its what your going to be charged for the job. independent shop or not.

I dont get the last part. I thought they got payed by the hour?? its an independent shop.
