• Eagles suck! hydroplaned....

i've known that my eagles are really bad tires in the water but i never realized this bad...

i was driving to school today and i was turning off the freeway... not even at high speeds, maybe 20 miles an hour.... when i start fishtailing. I over corrected to avoid oncoming traffic and did a complete 180 and jumped up onto the curb. Thank god no one was hurt and my car seems to be perfectly fine... but i'm thinking about getting new tires.

right now i have stock Good year Eagles and they're awesome in dry weather but the moment i run through a puddle always lose traction... should i get new tires or just learn how to drive like a granny in wet weather?
(btw my tires only have 10k miles on them)

If the tires are hazardous (mine were) trade them. Complain to goodyear about them, have them prorated by a goodyear dealer (Sears) and go buy another set of different but better 245/50 or 255/50 Goodyears. I recommend the Eagle HPs - they dont slide in the rain and aren't very expensive when you trade your unsafe GAs on them.

GAs suck, even in the dry, and theyre horrible cornering tires.

I have the something firehawks. What experience have others had with these? Mine suck. I need to get new tires. I was in the snow just a dusting like || that much on medium view for explorer and 1040X768. I did a 180 and messed up my front passenger side suspenion. Pissed me off big time.

Has anybody else had some experience with these tires??

Have you checked your tire PSI recently, if your tires are low the rear end will swing out real quick on our cars. I know this from experience.

I have the Eagle HP tires 245/50/16 on my camaro and I like them alot. I paid $110 out the door for them on my car, and so far so good. I live in southern cali (lots of stupid drivers here) and I've had to move quick, stop quick, in rain, and dry weather and never felt scared the tires wouldn't hold. Now the rear fishtailing is another deal.

When I first got my camaro, I had bald BFG radial TA's (worst tires I ever seen), balder than a mofo, and I could do some massive peel outs with them. It was heavy fog here and I almost did a 360 in the street. The next day went and got the goodyear HP's, had a massive storm, and they stuck pretty good.

I have noticed our cars like to have the rear end come around, so that part doesn't sound new. Now.....remember, when it rains out, I drive like miss daisey because I do not want to get in a reck, and hurt me or my car, so remember that too. Drive to what the conditions are.

Hope that helps,
Chris

as far as the firestone firehawks they are supposed to be pretty good tires from what I read.. I have no personal experience with them but go to tire rack and read the reviews. Everyone raves about them in wet weather. Now snow is a completely different story.. you could have hit a little patch of ice under the snow... I don't really know of any real preformance tire that does well in the snow but then again I have driven in the snow like 4 time my entire life..

i'm pretty good about my PSI... i underestimated the speed i was going becAuse today i took a turn at 25 and it was way slower than i was going when i hydroplaned. i was probably going about 40-45 (too damn fast for the rain)

But it is time for new tires, i'll look into Eagle HPs, any other suggestions?

I run Eagle HP's and I'm very satisfied with them. I'm planning on a different set next time though since HP's aren't very cheap tires - I think some SP5000's would be a better choice if I was to go spend more than $120/tire.

I agree the goodyears blow balls, got in an accidnet last night when my rear end came out on me, the roads were just wet enought, it had been drizziling for a while and out of no where my back end came out, i wasnt driving it hard or nothin then i tryed to correct it nothing happend cause i had no traction, hit a lady on the right of me (tured 90 deg to the right) then I slide and did a 180 deg turn slide tingy from there scary **** alot of traffic too was lucky i slide as far as i did so the other cars could stop in time

I had and now have again Eagle GAs. Also had Eagle GTIIs. Same thing basically. They are pretty bad when compared to Potenzas, but I never had problems like you guys described. I do drive them in snow when I have to. This winter there was no snow actually. In the rain you just have to be carefull. You must have been doing some crazy ****, cause I tried to lose control on purpose couple times to test them and regaining control wasn't that hard. The only reason I have them though it's cause I got them used for $40 total. Not a bad deal.

General actually makes hella tires. I have some XP2000 Z4s they have an inner aqua tread and outer street. Pat(blue_98_camaro) as well as my dad (has a 93 Z28) use the XP2000 A4, which are the same tread pattern all through, those handle real well, but if your sketchy about the rain get some z4s. about 135 per tire @ discount.

Never had problems with my eagles. I used to drive 70-90 up a mountain highway here. I even had three balding tires... until the guy at the gas station told me to change them because I might fishtail.
