  • how to get bushings out of LCA's???

Ok, I may be wanting to change out the bushings in my LCA arms to prothane or ES and I am wondering a few things.

    1. Is it hard to do, to take out the bushings and put them back in?

    2. Am I better off buying LCA's with ES bushings already in them (BMR) and call it a day, just replace them, and be on my way?

I don't wanna spend $35 for bushings, where for $100 I can get the new arms and bushings, already for me to go. I am just wondering what is a better idea. I have been thinking about doing the LCA arms, but read every now and then about them being good for a stright line, not really autocross thing.

    Let me know,
    Chris

I'm not real sure on the answer for your question.

I do know that if you don't shorten your sig a little one of the mods will get you. 10 lines is about the max.

Sorry I can't help on your question

K, thanks for trying though. I shortened it up a little, so lets see how much it shrunk it.

Actually I may be able to help a little. I believe that you have to have a press in order to get the bushings in and out. It may worth the hassle just to have them pre-installed. I'm not experience with this but I think I'm correct in saying that.

to get the most out of the bushings go with bmr right now with stock your bushing flexes till it won't flex no more then your weak stamped steel lca's bend, with the bmr's with poly bushings you get nice stiff holding power. go to just the poly bushings and your lca will still flex. plus if you don't press them out yourself it will proably cost ya about 20 bucks or more to get new ones by that time you are halfway to the 100 for the whole new deal. I don't know a mechanic or machine shop that will do ANYTHING for less than a 20.. they charged me 40 to change out the bushings on all 4 A-arms on my old blazer at a local front end shop..

With the rear control arm bishings, the companies that make them have the outer shell built onto the bushing. So, when you take the control arm off, heat the shell up with a blow torch, spray a little WD40 on it and then one strong blow with a hammer and the shell will come lose from the control arm.

It is pretty tough to get the bushings out without damaging the LCA's. You would have to pay a machine shop to do it for you, and that won't be cheap, but it would be cheaper than buy new ones (At least it should be) Call around to shops in the area and find out how much it would cost.

I got my LCA bushings from Prothane for $29.99 and installed them myself for free without damaging the LCA. That's quite a bit cheaper than buying a whole new LCA.
