  • so i need new tires

well, i need some new tires. i don't have any clue what to get, but i know i want 255/50/16 tires. please give me some suggestions or humor me with them because the tires i have on my car now are hardly streetable in the rain. i'm serious, i give the car more than 2000 rpms and i'm sliding. they are goodyear american eagles (wal-mart goodyear's only...and don't flame me for taking my car to wal-mart  it wasn't me who did it). anyway, money is not necessarily an issue, but i would like to keep it under $150. i want to leave the 235/55/16 eagles up front and put some better wet-tires on the back (255/50/16). what do you guys think? will my speedo be affected by having bigger tires in the back and stock size up front? thx.

Again, I REALLY would not recommend putting a different size on the back... Put all four the same. THen you can rotate and get a lot more life out of your tires.. There is no real reason to put different sizes on.

well, i like the wider look to be honest with you. i was going to put the wider ones on the back, and then this summer get new ones (same tires and size) and put them on the back, so they'd get rotated then.

      still not a good idea?

        How about $55/tire?

I intend on getting these - they track really well and I have yet to read a bad review.

        P245/50R16 Kumho 711 http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....odel=ECSTA+711

Then you can get all 4 for $220 + S/H

I have a set of BFG G-Force KDWs in 245/50/R16 and have no complaints at all, next time I will probably go with something cheaper though.

BS, P245/50R16 throws your speedo off only 1mph @ 70mph... Its nothing.

"my speedo will be off 2% or more"

                      "P245/50R16 throws your speedo off only 1mph @ 70mph"

You're both right. The speedo will be off about 2% (depends on the exact tires involved.) That's 1.4mph at 70.

The kumhos will be the best value. The only difference in the 711s and the 712s beside the appearance is speed rating. 711s are H and 712s are Z. They are rated at 240-280 or something close to that for treadwear, so I would say AROUND 30K if you take good care of them. You could get more, it depends on a lot of things. The BFG G-force tires last longer, but cost a lot more, so its a toss up there.

Were you looking for $150 total or per tire?

150 total ain't gonna buy much, I was under the impression he was thinking 150 each as a limit.
