  • Dad Broke My Parking Brake

I was driving on the highway, and when we got off I pulled over because he wanted to drive because he didn't know exactly where we were going. I stoped and he pulled the parking brake. so I put it in N and got out, we switched seats. He got in released the Parking Brake and the button shot forward a little, now I have the handle, and the button/wire with the spring off, and can't use my Parking Brake, which is important on a manual car.

What do I need to fix this? I have someone parting a Auto 1995 3.4 Camaro (Autos have parking brake to)

Should I just take it to the Dealer? What will that cost me?

Do I need to take off the console? Is that hard?

I don't know how to fix it, but it won't hurt anything to leave it in 1st or reverse without the parking brake. I never use the parking brake unless I want to get out and leave the car running. There is no need to wear it out using it all the time.

Don't take it to the dealer, they will take too much money.

Looking at the parts manual, it looks like you have to remove the center console. But I think you should be able to reuse the parts you have, just need to figure out how they go back together.

Are the pieces broke or did they just come off??? If they are broke you will need a new piece. But if all the pieces just came off there is a way to put them back on. It' sreally hard and I've done it. You don't have to remove the whole console either. Just the part where the boot is.

you need a whole new parking brake assembly, mine did that, and I tried 2 fix it myself, but u can't, u just gotta get a whole brand new unit, and I ended up having the dealer fix mine after I got the whole unit.

yea I tried to make one of the supposedly universal parking brake levers from autozone fit my car and the same thing happened to me and I took the console off and tried to fix it but couldn't. But kind of lucky and unlucky at the same time I got in a wreck and took it to the dealarship to get the damage repaired and they forgot to charge me for the parking brake, but it was like $7000 worth of damage so I guess it didn't matter that much. I think they quoted me like $85 for the assembly and like another $150 for labor but you could probably install it yourself
