  • Few questions on LCAs, etc.

I haven't done any suspension mods just yet, but I'm thinking of beginning with some BMR LCAs and maybe a BMR panhard rod to hopefully improve traction and my 60's. I've seached a bit and have seen that most people are installing these things themselves which I would MUCH rather than have to pay for labor. Any input or suggestions from anybody who has done this or knows all about this stuff?

After all this, down the road I'm thinking of some sway bars (are these difficult to install?) and a STB. What do ya think?

PHR, LCA's and maybe some softer rear springs will help your launch alot..

but! i would save the cash for a pair of rims and some slicks.. slp has a pretty god deal going..

    http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...RTNUMBER=80080

The labor is pretty easy.. LCAS are REALLLLY REALLLLLY easy.. (just a few bolts) adjustable pan hard rod is a little more difficult, getting it alligned takes some time.. Dont buy a non adjustable PHR they are useless..

The only special tool you will need is a nice torque wrench.. make sure you get a good one though craftsmans are good for the money.. nothing is worse then a cheep troque wrench.. dont jsut buy some random one you see at the autoparts or hardware store..

I would put sub frame connectors on before I'd change the LCA's and PHR.

      Subframe connectors
      LCA's
      PHR

Only change the front sway bar if your looking for better handling on teh road. It's nit necessary for the track. Mine's been sitting in my garage for a few months now. Your springs are pretty soft already.

        Traction mods:
LCAs, LCAs, LCAs, LCAs, and tires.

PHR is useless for the dragstrip, but you would probably like having a 21mm rear bar back there for pure drag racing. Take the front bar off too when you hit the track, its useless for the 1/4 mile.

I'm getting lca's, phr, and sfc's in a few days. phr is more for cornering. lca's will help launches a lot. sfc's are good for both cornering and launching. bigger swaybars help prevent axle twist when launching and improve cornering.

after u do all these, u may be able to spin ur tires. if so, get wider tires and hope they stick.

A front sway bar at the track isn't going to help anyting but to slow you down.

but u don't wanna just do the rear bar if u plan on driving on the street cuz of the increase in oversteer, so u should get the front done atthe same time.

Thanks for the help guys. My final goal is to beef up the entire suspension, so the drag strip isn't all I'm looking for to improve, I want some stiff cornering too. I'd like to give autoX a try someday.

Then you DO NOT want BMR LCA. Get the 1LE.

from what I understand strano told me that there really arnt any 1le arms anymore.. I am not 100% sure if its ture but thats what he said.. and i tend to belive him..

If i was you.. i wouldent even mess with LCA and SFC's..

first a nice set of springs, shocks, and sway bars.. and then wider/stickyer tires..
(so far it has worked great for me! and it will keep you in a relativly low auto-x class..

sfc's and lca's will send you way way up.. to get your *** whooped...

That's nonsense, people said you couldn't get the 1LE tranny mount anymore, and I got one from a GM dealer. Factory parts are available for several years after production ends. They are referred to as "service" parts, but the price tends to go up due to low production volumes and the part number may change.

LOL - 1LE sway bars are all over the place. Look about half way down this page: http://lt1f-body.racenet.net/suspension.php

You definitely want subframe connectors. That was the first suspension thing I changed.

There is no difference in the controls arms them selves between 1LE and stock. The difference is the bushings. You can buy 1LE bushings and put them in your stock control arms
