Aftermarket V8 Springs

I would like to put some Intrax springs on my car or maybe some Eibach sportlines, mainly because they offer more drop than the springs that are marketed exclusively for the V6.

Everyone always says the weight difference prevents us from using V8 springs. I was looking on F-body.org and found these specs.

The LT-1 only weighs 71.8lbs more compared to the 3.4. The 3.8L weighs 37lbs over the 3.4. So would this 34.8lb difference in the 3.8 and LT1 really matter? I saw 99bird3.8 posted pics of intrax springs on his car and the back looked pretty low although it was hard to tell about the front.

well, with the spring rates given in the data base, replacing an LT1 with a 3.8L would raise the car about .06"

(34.8lbs/2)/(292lbs/in)=~.06in

I do not know the free length of the springs, so the v8 springs could be longer/shorter to begin with. But the change in compression doesn't look to be major if those weight numbers are correct.

The V6 sits a bit further back, making the weight on the front wheels a little less than just the difference between the two engines.

Anyone got the weight distributions? They'll change year to year.

No they didn't have the weight distribution numbers. Those numbers are actually from 95, which is why they list the 3.4 and the 3.8 being an option over it. I do not know their accuracy, but it seems possible.

If .06" is correct, i think i could definately live with that. Ill just keep my windshield washer resevior FULL! LOL ;)

V6Bob is right, the placement of the weight will make a difference as well. The calculations assume all the weight falls on the front wheels alone, which it does not.
