Advice on Lowering Springs for my car...

Hey guys,

Question for you....I just called a local shop here and asked about lowering springs for my v6 firebird. He told me a set of Suspension Technique springs that drop the car 1.3 inches is selling for $289, plus an install of $150.

Now the reason I want to go only about that height is the fact that I have the W68 appearance package. I'm scared of scrappin those, also wondered on what the car would look like lowered with 245/50/16's. Does anyone have a W68 lowered with 16 inch mags..and are the springs a good deal?? I asked the guy if I needed to buy new shocks and he told me that I can keep the stock ones on. I don't know too much about the handling aspects of our cars, so any help is appreciated guys.

I can't help ya too much since I don't have a fourth gen, but I will say I think you are getting ripped off on those springs. I got my suspension technique springs with a 1" drop for $160 front and back. You might want to check out some online stores before buying from there.....

One thing you have to take account..its in canadian dollars. lol. But yeah I will call a few places tommorow.

My car dropped close to 1.75" in the front and near 2.5" in the rear due to the subwoofers. My car sits level now. I've had them for a little over a year now and the springs have settled. No wheel well gap at all. By the way $289 is too much. My sprints cost me 180 bucks. You can get eibachs cheaper than $289.

$289 Canadian is about $180 US.

After lowering the car, did you cut a bit off of the oil pan cover..that piece of black plastic..or whatever it is. Cause even with my car not lowered it scrapes quite a bit.

I know what you're talking about, but I forgot the name of it. Naw, you might wanna leave that on there. I'd rather have that scrape than my ground effects.

Having someone do it for $150 bucks (Can.)? You're probably better off doing it yourself. It's not that hard of an install. I told people I was doing my headers myself and they were like "Dude you are crazy!" Springs are an easy job.

The rear springs are easy, but the fronts are a pain in the azz!

So I decided on another set of springs for my car. Speed Tech springs that drop the car 1.2 inches in the front, and 1.7 inches in the back...so that way my car will sit level like shortdog's. Those are going for $270 canadian. I'll post pics in a couple weeks after install. Thanks for your help guys.

do you have any pics that actually show how much its lowered? you can't even tell how much wheel gap there is on the black car w/ a shadow.

You aren't talking about the air dam that pulls air to your radiator are you? I don't think that thing is affected to much by scraping. I would leave it if that is what you are talking about.
