• 17" vette rims rubbing fenders after 2" drop

i lowered my car with the sportline series eibachs, and then i threw on a set of 17" 315/35's off a vette, and now when i hit bumps or corner, my fender well hits the tire, and it's wearing on the tires (only in the rear). i was wondering if i have to raise it back up, or if i could just find stiffer shocks to take care of it. i replaced my shocks with the decarbons about 6 months ago. anybody with a suggestion, i'd appreciate it...

Do you have the SLP Jounce spacers?? I have the 17x9.5 Y2K Vette wheels with 275/40x17 tires and don't rub. But the back spacing on yours are much closer.

i'm not 100% what you mean, but the tire hits the actual fender, the actual body of the car, not the inside of the fender well... it's because i lowered the car. the fender is hitting the top of the tire, rubbing the outside of the tire off, making little nicks in the tire, cutting away the rubber. should i put higher springs back on the rear, or can i just get stiffer shocks? thanks again...

Some 315s w/17 in wheels require a spacer on a stock suspension, let alone a lowered one.
275s will take care of it..

but is yours lowered with the sportlines? 2 inches? i also posted something in the suspension board about my car sitting unevenly... it mostly just rubs on the right side, but i noticed that it hits both when i jump it hard, or when i take a hard corner while accelerating, trying to fishtail... are there stiffer shocks available that would keep my car from bouncing? oh, and uh, about the spacers, i'm guessing that you're talking about a disc that fits between the rim and the hub through the lugs, right? i thought about that, where can i get some and how much are they? thanks everyone for your help, i'll get it figured out soon i hope.

ive got 315's with 11.5 wide on my rear they work fine i had michelin 335s but they rubbed i rolled the lip on the reear fender which made the diffrence i think rolling the upper part of the fender lip would do the trick

You could:

1. Put the stock height springs back in the rear.
2. Get the rear fender lips rolled.
3. Try getting an adjustable pan-hard rod with opt 1, and or 2 so you can re-center to run the 315's.
4. Toss the 315's in the rear and use a differnt tire set up like:
fronts = 255/45/17 that's about 10 inches wide
rear = 285/40/17 = about 11.5 inches wide.

Vs. what you have of
275 front =around 11 width
315 rear = around 12.5 width.

Hope that helps.

yeah, that definately helps... i'm gonna start with getting the fender lips rolled (can i do this myself?) and then the adjustable PHR... i think the stock springs in the rear would give it a nice stance, but i've heard that it can cause other problems... and besides, i already trashed the old springs, so i'd have to find them at a junkyard. if anyone can tell me a quick easy but neat way to roll the fender lips, let me know. thanks again

Yes, you could roll your fender lips yourself. However, I would suggest going to a body shop. It is not that costly, and they have the correct tools, and can put a nice finish on it when it's done.

As for the springs, yes the stock ones work perfect for what you are trying to do. Sucks you threw em out. LOL. Not sure what you heard about problems, but... you would have no problems with stock.

well, in that case, if anyone still has there stock springs for the rear, i'll buy 'em off ya... name a price, thanks JAM ;)

Just as an FYI. This web-site has a good close up of a rolled fender lip.

PS have any of you guys with the bigger tires like this noticed a decrease in performance of any kind?
Thanks,
JAM
02 Firebird GT

I've seen other 17x11 rims out there, and I've wondered if they will fit w/ just getting an adj. phr to re-center the rear end and getting new SLP jounce spacers? mainly, I'm looking at the torque thrust II's that LMperformance or ammperformance sells, along w/ forged fikse rims from thunder racing. this is assuming that I will keep my stock ride height in the rear.
