why does my abs inop light come on. doesn't come on when i start the car, only after i've been driving for about 1/2 an hour. if i turn the car off and then start it again it takes another half hour for the light to come on.

check to make sure all of the + and - terminals on and around the battery are snug and clean because one of mine was a little loose and i had ABS and all kinds of other lights on and when i snuged them down all probs went away......hopes this helps....

thanks for the info, but it can't just be a loose connection because when i shut the car off and turn it back on(whether i wait ten minutes or start it again right away) the light goes off everytime.

      anybody else?

Check to make sure that the spark plug wires are not running too close to the sense leads coming up from the front wheels. I had a similar problem with my son's 96 bird; I fixed it by just moving the sense leads (they are encased in a foil shield) away from the spark plug wires and held them away from the wires with a pull-tie. The gap, when I had the problem, was only about 1/2 inch between the right wheel sensor lead and #6 plug wire. After moving the wire to about 3 inches away, problem solved.

Check your brake lights (especially the light in the spoiler) if one is out it will trigger the abs inop light. This is a very common problem in 4th gen cars, but also an easy fix
