DIsc Brake Conversion HEY LOOCHY!!!

Ok I have a complete rear end. Everything is there that I need to do this drum to disc brake swap in my 97 camaro.

The only problem is the rear end is set up for 4 channel ABS with the ABS sensors on the back of the disc brakes. My current rear end is 3 channel ABS with the ABS sensor on the Differential Housing.

If I just do loochy88's swap, using my stock axels, will my ABS still work?

I am unsure. I know the ABS will still be plugged up since I am not changing the whole rearend. But I will also now have the other plugs for the 4 channel ABS and without them plugged up will the ABS still work? Will the ABS on the rear calipers originally set up for 4 channel ABS work inside the 3 channel ABS rear end and all the ABS still work correctly?

I know that may be really confusing but I need help here. I would love to just swap the whole rear end up I know that my ABS will not work then.

umm if you swap you axel you will still have DRUM brakes in the back.

you will still have ABS on your front brakes but not your rear, im not sure if your can break out the wires and run your own to each caliper or not that would be the best way if it works

im just going to do the loochy brake conversion

uses my stock axels but changes the drums ot disc brakes..

i dont think i can rewire it.. because now ihave 3 channel abs and the sensors on the disc brake plates is 4 channel..

basically i need to know how ABS works... if it like just pumps fluid in and out (releasing pressure) to keep the brakes form locking up.. then i should be fine.. cause the sensor for the 3 channel will still be there and hooked up.. and it uses my stock brake lines.. so it would have to be the same.

i talked to a guy at the local brake/tire shop im friends with.. older fellow very knowledgable

he said all it does is operate a abs pump valve so as long as my 3 channel abs is still hooked up.. and im using stock brake lines.. whihc i am.. then itll still work fine.

ok so i finsihed my rear end upgrade

i ended up adding these parts

zexel torsen LSD
3.42 GM gears
Z28 Rear sway bar
upgraded sensa-trac z28 shocks
and a rear disc brake conversion...

all worked out awesome, except now for some reason my abs isnt working.. not sure whats up with that.. ugh pisses me off.. o well.. nto sure whats up with that.. has the stock sensor and abs reluctor ring installed.. although i am using different gears and differential. maybe the differential placed the reluctor ring over to one side of the pickup sensor and it isnt getting it anymore.. dunno but the light is on

i love the lsd tho.. omg.. it breaks loose so easy in turns tho.. lol before when it broke loose one wheel skipped.. now if it breaks loose its gone lol.. damn

yeah my abs comes one sometimes now too, not sure if i missed air in the lines or is the Z28 rear end lol

how much did you pay for all that, and WHY didn't you just buy a used rearend?

That's because the Z-28 rear bar is overloading your rear tires. It's meant for a front heavy V-8, to take cornering loads off the front tires and send them back. That's really the only purpose of a rear bar, to tune the handling. On a V-6 it's not a good choice and could be downright dangerous.

ah thanks v6bob.. i gues sill have to change back.. figured it was a good upgrade.. i know its a little thicker.. meaning an upgrade.. and thats all an aftermarket one is is it not? just a thicker rear bar?

i didnt pay **** for it except seals and gaskets.. a guy i met on the board lives about an hour from me.. he told me if id come get the rear end i could have it.. so i did.. and swapped all the parts into my rear end... since that rear end was setup for 4 channel abs and i wanted ot keep my 3 channel working.. but it isnt working now anyway so

Yep. But this is one case where bigger is not better. The rear bar needs to be the right size for the best handling.
