New 245/50-16 Tires...

    New 245/50-16 Tires...

    I am going to get 2 new tires at a time instead of all 4. I currently have 235's on my car but i'm thinking about getting two 245's now and putting them on the back (leaving 235's for now on the front). Any opinions on these tires?

    I can get any tire i want at wholesale through a body shop (only ~ $80 each for the ones listed above). Any thoughts on these are appreciated because i've never used 245's. Other suggestions are welcome too. TIA

    DO NOT BUY EAGLE HPs. I had a set, they're simply the worst rain tire on the PLANET. After 2,000 miles of wear I was doing 180s in the rain, not even my stock GAs were that bad. Anything but those!

    If you're going cheap P245/50R16 Kumho 711s are $55/tire right now :D H rated, good tread life, people seem to like them as well or better than the 712s. Hard to beat pricewise [img]smile.gif[/img]

      Damn, thanks, glad i asked.

      Like i said i can get the tires at wholesale, so i don't need to go super cheap. I can get pretty much ANYTHING in the $150-$180 range for around $80 through the shop. Any suggestions?

        What are you looking for mainly?

        Wear? Wet weather? Dry cornering? It really just depends... Most people go for price but since you're not there is a LOT to choose from [img]smile.gif[/img] . I could list off 10 of my favorites if you just wanted that, but I'd rather find a good 3 that fit your needs specifically.

          Well, i don't have experience with a lot of different tires. Since i got the car i've had the stock Eagle GA 235's. (And yes, i did notice my car's traction was pretty bad in the rain, but i just pushed it aside as being the RWD camaro)

          I guess i'm looking for mainly performance/traction/handling more than anything.

          We do get snow here in the winter, but thats not my main concern (as long as they aren't absolutely horrible in the wet/snow); besides i don't think my camaro is ever going to be great in the snow.

          So i guess that means mainly performance in the retail ~$150-$180 range (at the most). [img]smile.gif[/img]

              These are the tires I currently have. I really like them. They do better than my GoodYear's in the rain/snow and on dry pavement.

                Price was a factor for me, but I couldn't be happier with my Bridgestone Potenza RE950s. They were about $122/ea mounted and balanced.

                  i have dunlop sp 8000's on my car and they own. i have driven 100 mph. in the rain w/out any hydroplaneing at all. these are z rated, have great wet and dry traction, and a cool tread pattern. at tirerack.com they were a about $115 each, so you could probably get them for cheaper from your hookup.

                    I really like my G-force T/A KDWs, but I don't think I'll spend as much money next time around.

                    The BFGs handle like a dream in corners but I still would like some more straight line traction.

                    They also stick Very well in the rain.

                      Right now I have 215/60/16s (crap, I know...they came with the car when I bought it used).

                      I just ordered the 245/50/16 Potenza RE 950s. For me, they fit pretty well. Realistically, I didn't need a Z tire but I did need a tire with somewhat good treadwear. It also got very good ratings and reviews.

                      They are on the way and I should have them this weekend. Any tips or anything...what will I notice going to the bigger tire? Thanks guys!

                        You'll probably notice a little more road wander, it'll definately handle a little different, too. You get used to it pretty quick, though.

                            Thanks for all the input guys. I think i'm going to go ahead and go with the P245/50R16 Kumho 711s are $55/tire. That will save me even more $, and looking at all the ratings they are just about as good as any tire out there i was looking at for $130.
