I believe it has to do only with FWD cars. It has to do with the fact that the engines are mounted transversely and when the engine produces torque it causes the wheels to steer due to the torque direction.

If I'm wrong, someone back me up, if I'm right, then woohoo

Right. It only effects FWD cars.

          "TORQUE STEER
Definition: The annoying tendency of some front-wheel drive vehicles to pull to one side when engine torque is applied. In other words, you step on the gas and the car wants to steer right or left. By redesigning the power train to use equal length half shafts between the transaxle and wheels, the tendency towards torque steer can be greatly reduced. The other cure is to keep off the gas."

Torque steer occurs on some FWD cars, because they have different length and thickness driveshafts. One will twist a little more than the other, causing the other wheel to pull forward with more force. Newer FWD cars have a balancer axle in the middle, so that both CV shafts are the same length, and they do not torque steer.

Torque steer also occurs if your hands are too far down the steering wheel.. When you accel or decel, and shift in the seat, your hand pulls or pushes on the wheel, causing it to turn a little.

It?s because the drive wheels are also the steering wheels. Think about an open diff, and all the power was going to the right wheel, naturally the car would wants to turn left, now instead of that wheel being in a fixed location it is able to move in a left to right motion.
